 ( 1 ) GLOBAL MARKETS

First, a deep drop in world markets. The S&P 500 closed just under 6% lower at 5,074.08 points, on President Donald Trump's imposition of his new 10% duty on all American imports, coming into effect last Friday. In India, the NIFTY NEXT 50 dropped more than 4%, led by banking stocks such as Canara Bank and ICICI Bank. Trump responded to the market decline, stating, quote, "Markets may need to take some medicine," as he remains adamant about his trade policy. Experts predict possible ripple effects globally as Canada and China move to retaliate tariffs later this week.

( 2 ) MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT

Looking to the Middle East, tensions mounted last night as Hamas fired its largest attack on Israel in months. Sources in Gaza report that Israel's Iron Dome did not stop the attack, fueling speculation about the effectiveness of the system. Casualties are still trickling in, but the strike represents a severe escalation of the conflict. There has been no official word yet from Israel, but news should be forthcoming.
